Botswana Helicopter Safari

Days 1, 2 and 3 – Makgadikgadi Pans
On your arrival in Maun you will be met by your helicopter pilot for the start of your Botswana helicopter safari. From Maun you fly East to the expansive Makgadikgadi Pans to your first camp. This surreal landscape is something completely different to the rest of Botswana (and Africa for that matter) and offers some of the best experiences for wildlife lovers and adventurers. Although the Makgadikgadi Pans is home to herds of zebra, wildebeest, oryx, elephants and prides of lion, the experiences here are not your traditional safari experience. Highlights of the Makgadikgadi Pans include learning more about the traditions and customs of the San Bushmen who call the deserts of Botswana home. Head out on an educational walk with a family and learn how they survive in this harsh environment finding food and water in a seemingly desolate place. The Makgadikgadi Pans is also home to the inquisitive and mischievous habituated meerkats. The camp offers a unique experience to spend time with them as they go about their day foraging for bugs, scorpions and anything else they can dig up. The real highlight of the Makgadikgadi Pans is heading out into the vast salt pans on quad bikes and having the opportunity to sleep out under the stars. There is no light pollution offering some of the best star gazing in the world.

Days 4, 5 and 6 – Private Okavango Mobile Camp
There is no better way to experience Botswana than by flying low over the Delta in your very own helicopter, having the ability to land on islands for picnics or explore them on foot with your guide. Your camp is a private luxury mobile camp set up on a private island in the middle of the Okavango Delta. This will be your base from which you can explore the area by helicopter, mokoro and on foot. Having the camp to yourself ensures an exclusive safari that is tailored to your interest. This is why a helicopter safari is so special, allowing you to access areas that are inaccessible to vehicles, fixed-wings, or even boats.

Days 7, 8 and 9 – Selinda Explorers
From your private Delta Camp, you fly by helicopter to the Selinda Reserve for the next part of your Botswana Helicopter Safari. The Selinda Reserve is one of the largest private wildlife reserves in northern Botswana. The 130,000-hectare reserve has just 3 camps on it, thus ensuring the utmost in exclusive safari experiences. Explore the grasslands, woodlands, floodplains, and lagoons on walking safaris or from the comfort of a 4×4 in search of the abundant wildlife which includes large herds of elephants and buffalo, prides of lions, leopards, cheetahs and the highly endangered wild dog. This is one of our favorite reserves in Botswana due to the exclusive safari experience and incredible wildlife sightings. The camp is situated on a bend in the Selinda Spillway and is designed in a traditional East African explorer style. Each of the 4 guest tents has an ensuite bathroom with flush loo and bucket shower. After a day on safari, why not relax in one of the hummocks under the Jackelberry trees and watch Africa pass you by.
